Episode 122 | THE FOCUS FUNNEL

This episode is sponsored by Matt Herbert

Lost time is never found again. Benjamin Franklin
The focus funnel is our attempt to create a visual depiction that codifies the thought process that Multipliers go through in their head unconsciously when they are evaluating how to spend their time. It's why some people create extraordinary, explosive, exponential results. Rory Vaden

In last weeks show I took on another three lessons from tik tok and youtube sensation Abo Demi Demi. They are great life lessons so please go back and check it out if you missed it.

Today though I’m re-introducing you to something I covered in passing on a very early episode – Rory Vaden’s Focus Funnel.

Managing your time goes beyond just being efficient and effective; you need to choose what tasks to take on, and which to let go.

That’s where the Focus Funnel from Rory Vaden’s Procrastinate on Purpose comes in handy. This is very much a visual thing so if you want to fully understand this please go to filmproproductivity.com and check out the diagram that accompanies this episode. Only there will you find the full show notes.

Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Just take your to-do list, and ask the following questions:

1. Does this task actually need to done? If not, eliminate it.

2. Does it involve a repetitive task that a computer could do? If so, automate it!

3. Can someone else do it just as well as I can? If so, delegate it.

4. Does it need to get done right away? If not, procrastinate.

If you answered no to all of the above, you’ve got a task that is important and requires your attention ASAP.

Set your pomodoro timer, and get that job done.

As you work through this checklist, you’re sure to find activities that are best eliminated, automated, delegated, and procrastinated.

You multiply your time by spending time on things today that will give you more time tomorrow. Rory Vaden

The Focus Funnel can’t get you out of all of your work, but it will help you put each task in perspective and help you maximize the time you spend on the things that matter most.

Today’s call to action is to go to the website filmproproductivity.com and have a good look at the focus funnel. Download the image or photograph it, and use it to prioritize your tasks.

The key to becoming a more efficient leader isn't checking off all the items on your to-do list each day. It's in forming the habit of prioritizing your time so that you are accomplishing your most important goals in an efficient manner. John C. Maxwell Unquote

On next week’s show I’ll be looking at the adage that you become the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Please join me then to find out more.

For now though I’ll end with some words from John Maeda who said

People who can focus, get things done. People who can prioritize, get the right things done.

Now take control of your own destiny, keep on shootin’ and join me next time on FILM PRO PRODUCTIVITY AND SUCCESS!
